Abstract

Epoxy resins are cured by mixing and reacting therewith a compound of the formula where n is a number from 0 to 4 and R is a group -R1-C(CH 3 ) 2 -R1-, where R1 is a para-connected unsubstituted six-membered carbocyclic ring. In examples the epoxy resins cured are the di- and polyglycidyl ethers of 2,2 - bis - (4 - hydroxyphenyl) propane and 2,2 - bis - (4 - hydroxycyclohexyl) propane, diglycidyl - hexahydrophthalate, -tetrahydrophthalate, -phthalate, -isophthalate, -adipate, -azelate, diglycidyl ether and triglycidylisocyanurate. In an example, 2,2-bis-(4-hydroxycyclohexyl) propane diglycidyl ether is prepared by hydrogenating the corresponding phenyl compound over a rhodium-on-carbon catalyst.
