Abstract

1314226 Fluid logic and switching circuits: Regulating I.C. engine fuel injection BENDIX CORP 5 Aug 1970 [5 Aug 1969] 37880/70 Headings F1P, FIB The control inlet jets 66a--f of each of a plurality of bi-stable fuel injection valves 48a--f and which when air-pressurized switch a fuel supply jet delivered from manifolds 50a--f from return outlets 54a--f to outlets 56a--f connected to an associated cylinder of an I.C. engine are sequentially supplied with an air pulse by first means 74, 76 driven in response to engine speed, and control jets 68a--f of said bi-stable valves which when air-pressurized switch the fuel back to return outlets are subsequently supplied with an air pulse by second means 82, 84 driven in response to engine speed; said second means being operatively connected by means e.g., a rod 90 to means e.g. bellows 86, 88 responsive to engine fuel demands whereby the time duration of fuel injection is controlled. The engine-driven pulse generator members 74, 76 operate by sequentially blocking open ends 72a--f of ducts 62a--f connecting control inlet jets 66a--f to a stationary vented ring manifold 70, whilst generator members 82, 84 sequentially blocks open ends 80a--f of ducts 64a--f connecting control inlet jets 68a--f to a vented ring manifold 78 which is adustably oriented by rod 90 and bellows 86, 88. The bellows receive output signals in lines 92, 94 from fluidic vortex amplifiers 42a, 42b Fig.3 having power supplies 170, 176, 178, 180, 182. The amplifiers also have control inlet signals at 20a, 20b generated by a sensor 18 responsive to manifold vacuum, control inlet signals at 24a, 24b generated by a mono-stable element 22 also responsive to manifold vacuum, control inlet signals at 30a, 30b generated by a fluidic element 26 responsive to engine speed and temperature, control input signals 32a, 32b generated by a device 28 responsive to engine temperature and control input signals 40a, 40b generated by a device 38 responsive to engine speed.
