Abstract

1313777 Light sensitive materials for colour proofing AZOPLATE CORP 8 July 1970 [9 July 1969] 33176/70 Heading G2C A light-sensitive material for colour proofs comprises a transparent support coated with a layer containing a dye and a condensation product containing at least 2 units of A-D and at least one unit of B, which units are linked by a bivalent member derived from formaldehyde wherein A is a radical of a compound containing an aromatic carbocyclic ring carrying the D group, this ring being linked by a bond or intermediate group to an aromatic carbocyclic or heterocyclic ring which compound is capable of condensation in at least one position with formaldehyde in an acid medium, D is a diazonium salt, azide, triazone or diazosulphonate group and B is a radical of a compound free from diazonium groups and capable of condensation in at least one position with formaldehyde in acid medium. The condensation products are preferably those disclosed in Specifications 1312925, 1312926 and 1302717. The layer may also contain styrene/ moleic unhydride copolymers and polyester resins. The material may be imagewise exposed and developed with an aqueous solution of a sodium salt and a nonionic e.g. alkyl aryl polyether alcohols, or anionic wetting agent, e.g. lauryl sodium sulphates, to remove the unexposed areas. If this process is repeated using dyes conforming to the colours of standard inks, a colour proof can be produced.
