Abstract

1313138 Resistance heating elements EDWARDS HIGH VACUUM INTERNATIONAL Ltd 18 May 1970 [27 May 1969] 26829/69 Heading H5H [Also in Division F1] A resistance heating element 8 for a diffusion pump (see Division F1), comprises a bundle of thin filaments, at least some of which are electroconductive. The heating element 8 may be in the form of a bundle of filaments (26), Fig. 3 (not shown), helically wound around a grooved support (28) having passages (32) communicating with an interior liquid supply passage (30), a concave lens shaped bundle or a substantially cylindrical bundle, with end-plate electrodes. The bundle may have conductive and non- conductive filament layers and a filament-free central passage for easier access of liquid into the element. The filaments may alternatively be in helically twisted layers of opposite hand, have a simple helical twist throughout or be of interwoven construction. The electroconductive filaments may be of insulation material coated with electroresistive material.
