Abstract

1381006 Twine J F GILBERT 15 March 1972 11922/72 Heading D1T [Also in Division H1] A plurality of plies 1, 2, 3 that are twisted together in the same direction to form a twine 4 has at least one of the plies composed of non-conductive fibrous material twisted together in one direction of twist, and at least one filament of electrically conductive material 6 wound around said one ply to follow a spiral path lying in a direction of twist opposite to that of the electrically non-conductive material. In Fig. 1 there are three plies 1, 2, 3 each composed of a plurality of individual electrically non-conductive filaments 5 twisted together in one direction of twist and upon each of which is an electrically conductive filament 6 wound on in an opposite direction of twist. The plies 1, 2, 3 are twisted together in the same direction as the filaments 5. In Fig. 2 (not shown) the filaments 5 are replaced by electrically non-conductive fibrous tape (7) of suitable composition, such as synthetic plastics material extruded or calendered and drawn into a fibrous condition. In the embodiments of Figs. 1 and 2 the direction in which the filaments 5 or tapes (7) are twisted may be opposite to that in which the plies are twisted together to form the twine.
