Abstract

1312274 Rotary tablet press PENNWALT CORP 3 April 1970 [1 May 1969] 15975/70 Heading B5A A tablet making machine comprises a rotatable die table 10 including a die 24 at least one punch 14 carried by the table, reciprocable parallel to the axis of rotation of the table and guided by a fixed cam structure 18, and is characterized in that the cam structure includes a rotatable cam roll 36 carrying a roller 46 having a broad end surface 48 engageable by the punch 14. Punch 14 engages surface 48 along the marginal portions thereof causing roller 46 to rotate on bearings 50. A second punch 16 is supported in table 10 for coaction with punch 14 and is guided by a cam structure 20, including a roll 38. The roller 46 on roll 38 is mounted for movement about an axis inclined at an angle of 8 to 10 degrees to the vertical so that when punch 16 engages the margins of surface 48, it is guided upwards into the cavity of die 24.
