Abstract
1311994 Contact material VEREINIGUNG VOLKSEIGENER BETRIEBE ELECTRISCHE KONSUMGœTER 22 April 1970 19267/70 Heading C7D [Also in Division H1] Electrical contacts e.g. slip rings and commutators are made from a mixture consisting of (a) carbides, borides, silicides, oxides or nitrides of metal, metalloid or non metals (b) graphitic carbon and (c) an organic or inorganic binding compound. The preferred mixture contains 40-98% of (a) and (b) with 60-2% of (c) where (a) is 1-100 micron SiC and the graphite has a grain size up to 1 mm. The binder may be clay, silicates, organic resins or organic silicones and the mixture can be shaped by vacuum extrusion, moulding or hot spraying at room temperature, the melting point of the resin or at the setting temperature of the resin. A further heat treatment at 600-1600‹C may be effected to carbonize the resin binder.
