Abstract
1,108,673. Electric resistance heating. THERMON MANUFACTURING CO. 12 July, 1965 [8 Oct., 1964], No. 29408/65. Heading H5H. [Also in Division F4] Heat transfer apparatus comprises a channel member prefilled with a heat transfer material and containing a heat conducting agent and means to secure the member to an object to transfer heat therebetween. Apparatus for heating a pipe P containing liquid or a plate (not shown) comprises two insulated electrical resistance heating wires 20, 21 within a metallic band 22, embedded in a plastic heat transfer material 12 within a channel 10 which is strapped to the pipe by bands. The channel 10 and the bands may be of steel or plastics material and the channel may have a circular, oval, triangular, square, &c. cross-section. The heat transfer material may be thermosetting containing silica; methylene bis- or hydroquinone; graphite, powdered metal, carbon or metal oxide and organic binders such as polybutene, butyl rubber, epoxy resin or silicones.
