Abstract
1311952 Polyoxyalkylene compounds; iodine adducts MARLES - KUHLMANN - WYANDOTTE SA 27 July 1970 [28 July 1969] 36355/70 Heading C2C [Also in Divisions A5 and C3] Liquid, biodegradable, water-miscible, non- ionic surfactants are obtained by copolymerizing (a) ethylene oxide or a mixture thereof with a C 3 or C 4 alkylene oxide, (b) at least one C 10-20 alpha-olefin oxide and (c) a C 2-10 polyhydric alcohol having from 2 to 6 OH groups, the reactant proportions being such that the resulting product contains from 40 to 80% by weight of ethylene oxide groups. Iodine may be dissolved in the product to form a complex therewith, and this complex may be stabilized by subsequent addition of further quantities of the above surfactant or any other biodegradable surfactant, or by addition of ethanol or isopropanol. The iodine complexes may be diluted with water and acidified with mineral acids to provide germicidal compositions for use as shampoos. In examples glycerol and trimethylolpropane are reacted with ethylene oxide and mixtures of C 11-14 or C 15-18 alphaolefin oxides. Uses.-As surfactants, germicidal compositions and shampoos.
