Abstract

1310273 Thermionic valves SIEMENS AG 20 Aug 1970 [21 Aug 1969] 40045/70 Heading H1D A grid controlled transmitter tube comprises a hollow anode cylinder 5 surrounding a central hollow cylinder 1 having a plurality of radially directed ribs 2 extending parallel to the anode axis to form a common focusing electrode for a plurality of strip like cathodes 4 placed between the ribs to form separate flat electron beams focused and directed radially outwards towards the anode between gaps in a cage-like control grid formed of parallel axially extending elongate members 6, a pair of which is positioned adjacent and radially outwards of each rib. (The drawing is a view of a radial cross-section in which the cylinder radius is very large.) Each cathode comprises a flat or concave sheet or wire of Th coated W and is tensioned by springs at each end. The members of the grid comprise rods, wires or flat strips tensioned by a common spring. In an amplifier the focusing electrode is maintained at or negative to the cathode potential and is cooled; a permanent magnet system provides a radial focusing field. Connections are effected by disc leads separated by ceramic rings forming part of the vessel wall.
