Abstract

1309768 Adhesive coated foamed material JOHNSON & JOHNSON 13 July 1970 [15 July 1969] 33901/70 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions A5 B5 and C3] The backing strip for an adhesive bandage is made from a polyvinyl chloride plastisol by mixing the ingredients 100 parts polychloride resin 70 parts propylene glycol adipate, 3.3 parts di-butyl tin maleate, 1.7 parts 1, 1-Azobisformamide, 20 parts xylene until a blowing agent is dispersed. The plastisol is cast by reverse-roll coating onto the uncoated surface of a silicone coated carrier paper, at a depth of .005 inch and fused in a conventional hot air oven at 380‹F for three minutes. The film expands to .020 inch and is then cooled, and rolled up. It is unrolled and the foamed side is coated with a rubber based pressure sensitive adhesive, and re-rolled with the adhesive in contact with the silicone surface of the silicone carrier paper. A pad for the bandage can be made from a carboxylated styrene-butadiene latex which is similarly deposited on the silicone side of a silicone coated carrier strip and knife coated to a depth of 0.063 inch. Foam is dried in a hot-air oven at 350‹F for seven minutes. The foamed material is cooled and removed from the carrier strip.
