Abstract

1492221 Sanitary napkins PERSONAL PRODUCTS CO 7 April 1975 [4 Oct 1974] 14160/75 Heading A5R [Also in Division B5] A sanitary napkin comprises an absorbent pad 12, a pervious sheet 14 enveloping the pad, a layer 26 of material having a coefficient of friction of more than 2.0, a layer 28 of pressure-sensitive adhesive partially covering layer 26 and a protective cover 30. covering layer 28. A layer (38) of impervious material may optionally be added adjacent layer 26, Fig. 3 (not shown). The pad 12 comprises cellulosic or cotton fibres, or hydrophilic polyurethane foam. Layer 26 may comprise a compressible polymeric foam of the following types: polyurethane, cellulosic material, polyethylene, latex, silicone, polyvinylchloride, polyvinylchloride-vinyl acetate copolymer or vinyl chloride-vinylidene chloride copolymer. The surface of layer 26 may be embossed, micropleted, creped or coated, or may be impregnated with chemicals such as ethyl vinyl acetate polymer, polystyrene or butadiene nitrile, or latex rubber. Examples of suitable pressure-sensitive ahesives are given. Optional variations allow the impervious layer (38) to be an outer cover, adjacent the absorbent pad or within the absorbent pad. Various configurations of the frictional layer 26 include a plurality of patches or spots. Likewise, the pressure-sensitive adhesive may be disposed in a longitudinal strip or in patches.
