Abstract
1309457 Activating hydrocracking catalysts UNIVERSAL OIL PRODUCTS CO 16 June 1970 29063/70 Heading B1E [Also in Division C5] A hydrocracking catalyst containing at least one oxidized metallic component is activated by: contacting the catalyst mass in a reaction zone with hydrogen at -18‹C to 177‹C and a pressure greater than 6.8 atm. g., during said contacting, introducing into the reaction zone a hydrocarbon feed stock and H 2 S, an alkyl mercaptan or an alkyl sulphide, the feed stock being maintained substantially in the liquid phase; raising the temperature of the catalyst mass to 177-260‹C while maintaining the pressure within the reaction zone at 34-204 atm. g.; maintaining the catalyst mass at said temperature and pressure for sufficient time to effect reduction and sulphiding of a major part of the metallic component while containing to maintain a substantial part of the feed stock in the liquid phase; increasing the temperature of the catalyst mass to a hydrocracking temperature of less than 454‹C; and hydrocracking the hydrocarbon feed stock. The catalyst may comprise as metallic component: Cr, Mo, W, or a Group VIII metal or a compound thereof supported on SiO 2 -Al 2 O 3 or on aluminosilicate. Examples describe the activation of a nickel-zeolite Y catalyst using as the hydrocarbon feed stock a hydrorefined light cycle oil to which t-butylamine, t-butanol and sulphur as t-butyl mercaptan or Me 2 S had been added and its use in hydrocracking the feed stock.
