Abstract

Disk apparatus.-A machine for grinding gauges and form-tools comprises a bed a in which are mounted three bars b, c, d, the bar b carrying a swinging arm j, on which is mounted the grinding-disk k<1>, and being movable longitudinally by means of a hand-wheel f and rack-andpinion gear, and the bar c having pivotally mounted thereon a work-table u. The swinging arm is located between collars b<1>, b<2> secured to the bar b, and carries a pointer l mounted in a holder l<1>, which is adjustable vertically and angularly; the arm and the grinding-wheel are normally drawn back from the work by a spring n<3>. The work-table u, which carries the work and also a pattern, may be clamped in any angular position by means of a slot v and a nut x, screwing on the bar d, and may be adjusted laterally by means of a micrometer-wheel 2 acting through worm-gearing d<1>, y<1>. In operation, the grinding- disk is held up to the work-blank, against the resistance of the spring n<3>, by means of a lever m and is traversed by the hand-wheel f, the pointer at the same time engaging the pattern. When grinding snap-gauges, the final cut is made by clamping the bar b by means of the clamp-lever b<5> and moving the work by means of the micrometer-wheel. In order to grind the converse of the pattern, a pointer having a bent-back end is employed.
