1308621 Compositions comprising potassium and chlorine SANDOZ PRODUCTS Ltd 5 June 1970 [27 June 1969] 32766/69 Heading A5B A pharmaceutical composition comprises (a) a pharmaceutically acceptable organic compound containing available chloride, which on dissolution in water forms a neutral or basic solution, and (b) a pharmaceutically acceptable compound containing ionisable potassium. Compound (a) is suitably a hydrochloride of a basic amino acid such as lysine, 5-hydroxylysine or arginine. Compound (b) is suitably potassium carbonate, bicarbonate or citrate. The composition may be in the form of an effervescent composition and may contain a diuretic such as dopamide.
