Abstract

1308538 Filter fabrics HUYCK CORP 9 June 1970 [10 June 1969] 27994/70 Heading D1K A forming medium for a paper making machine comprises interwoven non-deformable warp and weft yarns in which the axes of the machine direction yarns 16 lie substantially in the same plane, i.e. the vertical distance between the areas of adjacent yarns 16 is less than the diameter of the cross machine direction yarns 14, the diameter of the yarns 14 being greater than the average distance in the cross-machine direction between the facing peripheral surfaces of adjacent yarns 16. The yarns may be polyamide, polyesters, acrylics or copolymers thereof and are such that in use their cross-sectional dimensions remain substantially the same under the tension applied to the fabric. The fabric of Fig. 4 is an endless woven satin-weave but any weave other than plain weave is suitable. After weaving the length of the yarns 14 may be reduced, to obtain a crowded weave, by shrinking, e.g. by heat, whilst holding the yarns 16 under tension. The fabric may be two-ply wth a coarse layer connected to a finer layer.
