Abstract
Papermaking machine fabrics are formed by weaving warp and weft yarns of resilient synthetic fibre into an endless belt in which the weft yarns extend in the direction of the belt and the warp yarns extend transversely thereto, substantially tensing the belt in the weft direction whilst it is released in the warp direction, the tensing being carried to the point where the weft yarns are substantially straight and additional tension produces negligible additional crimping of the warp yarns, and bonding the warp yarns to the weft yarns at their points of crossing while so tensed. The warp and weft yarns may be made of polyamide fibres, polyester fibres, acrylic fibres or copolymer fibres and the stretching in the weft direction is preferably about 4%.
