Abstract
1308103 Polymerizing vinyl chloride SOLVAY ET CIE 3 June 1971 [10 June 1970] 18797/71 Addition to 1124237 Heading C3P Vinylchlorideis polymerized or copolymerized in the absence of a liquid phase and in the presence of a free radical yielding polymerization catalyst and an inert solid introduced before commencement of polymerization, the polymerization temperature between 40 and 80 C. and the pressure being greater than that at which the polyvinyl chloride/gaseous vinyl chloride interaction is considerably modified (defined) and below the saturated vapour pressure of vinyl chloride at the polymerization temperature. The inert solid may be asbestos, silica or perlite, but is preferably PVC; and a suitable catalyst is lauroyl peroxide.
