Abstract

1307447 Shank for rail vehicle couplings AMSTED INDUSTRIES Inc 19 Oct 1970 10 Nov 1969 49574/70 Heading B7T A shank for a rail vehicle coupling 12 comprises a box-section portion 14 closed by a wall 30, a portion containing a key slot 16 and a butt end 18, the portion containing the slot consisting of upper and lower straps 34, 36 merging with the walls 22, 24 of the portion 14 and reinforcing ribs 38, 40 extending inwardly from the straps with cavities 48 extending therebetween. A further rib 32 may extend forwardly from wall 30 and lightener cavit´es 52, 54, 56 formed in the shank. In a modification only two ribs 38, 40 are provided and the inclined faces 42 extend from the rear surface 58 of the slot 16. Either the wall 30 or both the wall 30 and rib 32 may be dispensed with.
