A coupling for toy railway vehicles, of the type comprising an attachment part 2, 3 carrying a hook part which comprises; a transverse portion on web 1; a longitudinal portion 4 extending perpendicularly from one end thereof; a coupling nose 5 having an outwardly disposed knife edge 6, said nose extending perpendicularly from the end of said longitudinal portion 4 not attached to the transverse portion 1, transverse to the direction of motion; and short narrow limiting portion or web 7 extending perpendicularly from the end of said coupling nose and directed towards said transverse portion 1, is characterised in that the inwardly facing surface of said coupling nose 6 comprises a ridge formed by surfaces 9 and 9' which are at an obtuse angle, and that the end of the limiting portion 7 facing transverse web 1 has a complementary recessed surface formed by surfaces 10, 10' at the same obtuse angle In other embodiments (i) Surfaces 11, 11' (see Fig. 4) of the coupling nose are recessed at an obtuse angle, instead of being ridged, and surfaces 12, 12' of limiting portion 7 are complementarily ridged at an obtuse angle (ii) In Figs. 5 and 6 the inward facing surface of coupling nose 5 is either concavely curved, 15, or convexly curved, 13 and the face of the limiting portion is correspondingly convexly curved 16, or concavely curved, 14.
