Abstract

1306600 Image pick-up tubes FERNSEH GmbH 4 Nov 1970- [6 Nov 1969] 52511/70 Heading H1D A camera tube of the image-orthicon type wherein the target comprises an array of diodes on a semi-conductor substrate, is characterized in that the target is disposed 0À5 to 4 mm. from the photo-cathode, there being no intervening electrodes. In Fig. 1 the target end of the tube is enclosed with a cylindrical glass member 6 which is secured by a flange 7 to the body portion. A front plate 8 is secured to the member 6 by a soldered joint 9 and carries the photo-cathode 14 to which a connection is made by a lead 16 passing through a bore 15. The target 11 is supported only at its edge portions by supports 10 which are sealed through the flange 7 and which may also support a collector grid 12. The target may comprise a substrate of N- doped silicon which is doped to an enhanced degree on the side facing the photo-cathode and which has P-doped areas coated with gold contacts arranged on the opposite side. In operation the potential differences between the photo-cathode and the target should be 1 to 4 KV.
