Abstract

1306588 Deflecting propulsion jets MESSERSCHMITT-BOLKOW-BLOHM GmbH 15 Dec 1970 [23 Dec 1969] 59488/70 Heading B7G [Also in Division F1] A nozzle assembly for a jet propulsion engine comprises a jet pipe 1 having a variable area nozzle 2 and webs 4 each having a part-spherical edge to co-operate with a part-spherical inner surface of a ring 3 mounted thereon. The ring carries tangential pivots for a plurality (e.g. four) segments 5-8 which are so shaped aft of the pivots that they co-operate to form a further jet pipe 9, and are each formed with a rib 10 pivotally connected at 11 to a jack 12, pivoted at 13 to jet pipe 1. The segments are adjusted by simultaneous operation of jacks 12 so that the outlet cross-sectional area corresponds to the area of the propulsion jet 15 as selected by nozzle 2, and by differential operation of the jets to cause jet deflection.
