Abstract

1306206 Working aluminium/magnesium alloys OLIN CORP 16 March 1971 7006/71 Heading C7A An alloy consisting of 5-10% Mg, the balance being Al is (a) heated at a rate not greater than 50‹F/hr. to 650-800‹F. and maintained there for 1-16 hr., (b) cooled at a rate not greater than 50‹F/hr. to 350‹F., (c) heated at 225-350‹F. for 15 min. - 24 hr., (d) cooled to ambient temperature, (e) cold reduced 5-95%, (f) heated at 225- 350‹F. for 15 min. - 24 hr., and (g) cooled. The process may also include cold reducing 5-95% between steps (b) and (c). The alloy processed in the manner described is stated to have superior stress corrosion properties, and data are given. The alloy may contain limited amounts of one or more of B, Cr, In, Ga, Cd, Th, Te, Li, Ge, Co, Cu, misch metal; or of Fe, Si, Cu, Mn, Zn, Ti, Be; or of B, Cr, Fe, Si, Cn, Mn, Zn, Ti, Be.
