1304685 Heat exchangers J SAMUEL WHITE & CO Lid 18 Feb 1970 [18 Feb 1969] 8716/69 Heading F4S At least one of a pair of plates 1, 2 has a trough formed therein which when the plates are abutted face-to-face to form a hollow plate as shown in Fig. 3, defines a sinuous passage 4 for a fluid to be heated or cooled, by a tube or tubes extending through the passage 4. In the form shown refrigerant tubes 7, 8 are located within the passage 4 in contact with its wall and with one another. The tubes enter and leave the hollow plate through blocks 11, Fig. 3, to which the tubes are welded at 12. A fluid to be cooled enters and leaves the passage 4 by way of connections 5, 6, Fig. 1. Preferably the tubes 7, 8 are of copper; and the plates 1, 2 are of stainless steel or of zinc-coated mild steel. The tubes may be straight or helically finned.
