Abstract

1304449 Coating sheets MARDON FLEXIBLE PACKAGING Ltd 19 April 1971 [25 Feb 1970] 9063/70 Heading B2L [Also in Division D1] Coating apparatus comprises a smooth surfaced coating roller 10 which with a tangential stationary member 13 defines a die slot to control the thickness of the coating material on the roller and a presser roller 15 which presses a web 16 to be coated against the roller 10. The axial length of the roller is greater than the width of the member 13 and lugs on the corners of the plate locate in annular grooves in the roller to define the limits of the slot. A heater 14 is provided to remove excess solvent from the coating material on the roller 10. The width of the die slot can be adjusted by screws 23 which may be turned by a servomotor controlled by infra red or other detectors which compare the uncoated and coated surfaces of the web. A laminate may be formed by adding a second web 17 to the coated web before it passes between rollers 18.
