Abstract

1304304 Controlling steam autoclaves F LINDER 15 July 1971 [15 July 1970] 33281/71 Heading A5G The degree of saturation of steam supplied to a sterilizing autoclave chamber 1 is controlled .by the apparatus shown in which the steam flows via conduit 4 and valve 5 to a chamber 2 on its way to the autoclave chamber 1. A pressure-responsive element 10 in the latter operates when the pressure reaches a predetermined valve to close valve 5 and open valve 6 whereby a spray of water enters the chamber 2 via the nozzle 9. When the temperature in 2 falls to a predetermined value, the pressureresponsive element 7 operates to close valve 6, the pressure in chamber 1 falls and element 10 operates to open valve 5 and admit more steam which saturates with water vapour in passing through chamber 2 until no water remains when the temperature and pressure rise until element 10 again operates and the cycle is repeated. Valve 12 is used to evacuate the autoclave at the end of a sterilization run and remains closed during the sterilization process.
