Abstract
1304180 Swash plate mechanisms H PAPST 23 Dec 1969 [27 Dec 1968] 62512/69 Heading F2K [Also in Division F1] In an engine, pistons arranged concentrically around a rotatable shaft 1, Fig. 8, move in a fixed cylinder block and are connected to a wobble-ring exteriorly guided by bearing elements 71 in a swash plate 4 secured to the shaft, the wobble rings being non-rotatable relative to the cylinder block and having boxlike hollow sections in which are mounted pivot bearing members for connecting rods. The engine may be an I.C. engine, a steam engine or a Stirling cycle engine. The bearing 71 may be replaced by double or single row taper roller bearings. Bevel gears 61, 62 which maintain the non-rotatable relationship between the wobble ring and the cylinder block may be replaced by a simple universal joint or a ball and groove device (15), Fig. 1 (not shown), which may include chain and groove interengaging parts or a vernier coupling. The wobble ring and/or the swash plate may be of light metal alloys or steel with bearing surfaces hardened. The swash plate mechanism may comprise a single swash plate disposed between two wobble-rings. Oil is fed to passage 34, Fig. 3, via an intermittent connection to passage 33 as the engine rotates, the base portions 11 being fed via space 32.
