Abstract

1302435 Delustring cellulosic fabrics ASAHI KASEI KOGYO KK 21 Oct 1970 50001/70 Heading D1P A method of delustring fabric containing acetyl cellulose comprises the steps of applying to the fabric a paste comprising a hygroscopic substance and an inorganic acid or an aliphatic carboxylic acid or anhydrides thereof containing up to 4 carbon atoms, or a mixture thereof and a thickening agent and drying the paste on the fabric and then steam heating the fabric. The fabric may be printed with the paste using a printing plate or roller having the desired patterned surface. Textiles containing viscose rayon and cupra rayons, also textiles containing polyamide fibre, acrylic fibre or polyester fibre may be treated. Examples of suitable inorganic acids used are nitric, hydrobromic, phosphorous, hypophosphoric and especially phosphoric, hydrochloric and sulphuric acids. Examples of suitable aliphatic carboxylic acids are formic, acetic, propionic, butyric, oxalic, maleic, malonic, succinic, lactic, malic and tartaric acids. The acid is present in the paste from 3 to 50% by weight and preferably 5 to 40%. Examples of suitable hydroscopic substances are ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol; triethylene glycol, polyethylene glycol, glycerine, urea, ethanolamine, diethanolamine and triethanolamine. The hygroscopic substance is present in the paste in an amount from 0.1 to 25% and preferably 0.5 to 20% by weight. The steam heating treatment after drying is carried out for 1 to 60 minutes in saturated or unsaturated steam at 90 to 130‹C, preferably in saturated steam at 100 to 120‹C. The thickening agent may be a starch, gum, alginate, cellulose derivative or polyvinyl alcohol.
