Abstract
1301995 Cathode-ray display tubes LICENTIA-PATENT-VERWALTUNGS-GmbH 19 April 1971 [28 March 1970] 25100/71 Heading H1D [Also in Division H4] For demagnetizing a colour picture tube a ferromagnetic hood 7 (Fig. 4) is provided inside the tube envelope and coacts magnetically with ferromagnetic sheet members 4 (see also Figs. 2 and 3) the hood being excited by a decaying alternating current supplied to a coil 6 surrounding the tube envelope and the members 4 by a similar current supplied to coils 5 wound around the members and secured in notches provided in the latter. Alternatively, coils 8 (Fig. 5) may be provided between the envelope of the tube and the members 4. The latter may be secured to the tube by screwing, riveting or welding to or casting with the anti-implosion band or they may be detachably mounted by means of insulating holding means. Tension springs at the tube neck may be employed to pull the members 4 towards the envelope. The members 4 are preferably blackened on their insides to absorb the thermal radiation from the tube. The ferromagnetic hood forms with the shadow mask a closed magnetically screened chamber and compensates for the earth's magnetic field.
