Abstract

Magnets 36 using rare earths (e.g. SmCo5) are more efficiently used by placing them inside the envelope of the microwave tube adjacent the location where a magnetic field is required, and shielding the magnets so that they do not heat above say 250 DEG C. The deterioration in magnetic properties with the magnets in a vacuum is much less than is observed when the magnets are in air (outside the envelope) and heated only to 125 DEG C. <IMAGE>
