Abstract

1,162,464. Colour television tubes. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS Inc. 17 Jan., 1968 [18 Jan., 1967], No. 2613/68. Heading H1D. A transverse alignment assembly for a threegun shadow mask colour television tube comprises oppositely directed magnet field producing means 65 and 69 situated outside the neck of the tube at opposite ends of a diameter. In the arrangement shown two permanent magnets 65 and 69 are mounted in supports 63 and 67 provided in a support member 31 of magnetically permeable material which is arranged to form an extended polepiece in the vicinity of the magnet 69 to produce fields as shown. The effect of the combined fields of the two magnets is to produce a narrow vertical magnetic field across the beam 53 of the blue gun and an oppositely directed broad vertical field across the beams 54 of the other two guns (Fig. 8, not shown). The strengths of the fields can be adjusted by adjusting the positions of the magnets. The tube may also be provided with a radial comergence device comprising three magnets associated with internal polepieces (Fig. 3, not shown), and with a colour purity magnet comprising two annular magnets surrounding the neck of the tube.
