Abstract
1301202 Electrolytic recovery of metal using fluidized electrodes ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd 18 Feb 1970 7843/70 Heading C7B Metal is electro-deposited on to a fluidized bed cathode which may be made of particles of the metal to be deposited, or of particles, e.g. of glass, coated with the metal to be deposited; the anode used also being fluidized. The electrolyte containing the metal to be recovered may be produced from the sludge formed by electromachining apparatus or from scrap metal. If more than one metal is present in the electrolyte, e.g. nickel and cobalt, choice of voltage may produce selective deposition of the metals. In the form shown electrolyte enters the cell 10 via inlet 12a and is withdrawn via outlet 12b, producing sufficient turbulence to fluidize the anode particles 20 held within porous cylinder 16 and the cathode particles 18 between the cylinder 16 and the wall of the cell. Electrical contact to the electrodes is made via gauze cylinders 22 and 24.
