Abstract

1374726 Removing metal ions from solution ROCKWELL INTERNATIONAL CORP 6 March 1973 [31 March 1972] 10875/73 Heading C7B A method of removing mercury ions from an aqueous solution comprises passing the solution through a bed of particles each having a zinc surface; electro-depositing the metal ions on to the particles then separating the metal from the particles. The particles may be solid or hollow metal, glass or plastics. The active layer may be Zn. The water passes through inlet 8, through fluidized bed 11. The cathode 17 comprises a central rod 17 having axial rods 18 made of Zn plated steel. A porous plastics separator 15 divides the particles from the stainless steel anode 14. The particles may be passed to a separate cell having a fluidized bed where the metal is deplated and the active surface renewed.
