Abstract

129,991. Hansen, H. C. July 15, 1918, [Convention date]. Making barbed wire; corrugating; twisting wires together.-In a machine for making single strand barbed wire the die which produces the bends, around which the barb wires are wound, also feeds the strand. The strand 11 passes from a drum 2 and straightening rolls 3 through slits in blocks 7, 22 having dies 14, 26 reciprocated by springs 13, 25 and cams 16, 28 acting through levers 15, 27. After the die 14 has formed a bend in the strand, the block 7 is moved to the right by a cam 17, thus feeding the strand. The die 26 is then moved down to engage a previously formed bend and hold the strand while the die 14 rises and the block 7 is returned by the spring 19. The transverse wires to form the barbs are cut off and twisted around the strand, while stationary, by known mechanism 29. By altering the cams 16, 17, 28 the spacing of the bends may be varied.
