Abstract

230,620. Marks, E. C. R., (Pittsburgh Steel Co.). March 4, 1924. Making metal fabries; bending-dies; shearing- adjuncts. - Paper and wire fabric are united by crimping the strand wires through the paper and passing tie-wires through the crimps above the paper. The wire fabric is engaged by pullers 38 bv which it is intermittently advanced the distance between stay-wires C. At each pause a cross-rail 60 is elevated by toggle arms 62, 62<a> and in conjunction with an upper rail 59 forms crimps 100 in the strand wires by the engagement of formers 70, Fig. 5, and recesses 69. A tiewire B is then advanced by pinch rolls through guides into a groove 71, bevelled faces being provided on the rails to direct bent wire through the crimp. The paper F passes between the rails 59, 60 so that the crimps perforate the paper. Folder arms 83 engage the ends of the preceding tiewire and bend them upwardly, whereupon a rocker shaft 78<b> is rocked by a pitman 80 and arms carrying fingers 82 are moved towards the cross rails. Cams 82<a> then engage the rear of the arms 83 and cause them to pivot inwardly and bend the ends of the tie-wire into loops round the outside crimps. The compound sheet is cut into lengths by knives 52, 53.
