Abstract

1299308 Making turbomachine blades CESKOSLOVENSKA AKADEMIE VED 1 May 1971 12615/71 Heading B3A [Also in Division F1] A turbine or like blade is made by surface hardening a metal base and coating the hardened surface with resilient material, which is resistant to the effects of the working medium. The base is made by accurate forging, rolling or casting and is neither ground nor polished to produce a smooth surface. It is hardened by mechanical treatment such as shot peening or by combined chemical and heat treatment such as nitriding. The surface is left rough to improve the adhesion of the resilient material, which may be P.T.F.E. An intermediate layer of metal or metal oxide may be applied, e.g. by spraying, prior to the application of the resilient material. Steels having a low alloying content may be used to form the base.
