Abstract

1298752 Photographic reversal processing; foggants EASTMAN KODAK CO 26 Feb 1970 [3 March 1969] 9254/70 Heading G2C Unexposed photographic silver halide is fogged by treatment with an aqueous solution containing stannous ions chelated by an organo phosphonic acid chelating agent. An exposed photographic silver halide material may be reversal processed by treatment with a first developer to form a negative silver image, fogging the residual silver halide and developing with a second developer, the chelated stannous salt being present in a fogging solution used before the second development or in the second developer. The material may be black-and-white in which case the negative silver image is bleached out prior to the second development, or it may be a colour material containing couplers or the couplers may be present in the colour developer. Stannous salts are the chloride, bromide, fluoride, acetate, sulphate and tartrate and the chelating agents specified are those of the formulae:- where R is alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, alicyclic or heterocyclic group which may be substituted, R 1 is hydrogen, alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, alicyclic or heterocyclic which may be substituted or -PO 3 M 2 , R 2 is hydrogen, -OH, alkyl substituted alkyl or -PO 3 M 2 and M is hydrogen or a cation which imparts water-solubility.
