1298475 Variable resistors; circuit assemblies CTS CORP 9 Dec 1969 [9 Dec 1968] 60094/69 Headings H1R and HIS A variable resistor comprises two resistance tracks, on a substrate, one track being between the collector and a conductive termination, a contactor making wiping contact with the other resistance track and the collector. In Fig. 2 a resilient contactor 21 moves over an arcuate resistance path 13, e.g. of a cermet film, on a substrate 11a, e.g. of alumina or other ceramic material. The contactor, which is held in an actuating member 22, also contacts the collector area 16, provided with connection to terminal 19 via a second resistance track 14, which may act as a surge-limiting resistor. The terminals, e.g. 17, 18, 19 are of palladium-gold or other precious metal but may have a protective coating of solder to prevent oxidization and also to prevent leaching, when actual soldered connections are made. In Fig. 4 the variable resistor is combined with capacitors an inductance and a semiconductor switch 58 and a diode 57 on the same substrate.
