Abstract
1290355 Attenuators WESTERN ELECTRIC CO Inc 16 Dec 1969 -[20 Dec 1968] 61110/69 Heading H1S An adjustable attenuator comprises a number of thin film resistors on a common substrate 202, spring contacts 204, 211 being slidably adjustable on each resistor so that it can be cut into or out of circuit. The spring contact portions are bifurcated so that each contact can be moved to bridge a pair of terminal points on the resistive elements. The resistors are combined into balanced "H" pads. The resistors (tantalum nitride) are connected by printed circuitry, are provided with contact pads (50A, 50B-61A, 61B, Fig. 5, not shown) of platinum, titanium or rhodium with gold and are carried on a substrate 202 of glass, glass with an oxide underlay, glazed alumina or superfine alumina. The resistors may be of Ta 2 N. They are tailored by anodizing to obtain suitable insertion loss and impedance parameters. The spring contacts 204, 211 are secured to sliders 203 which are secured to and movable by manually operable members 206. Terminals 207 are connected to the printed circuitry through holes 208 in the base 201 which may be ultra-sonically welded to the cover 205.
