Abstract

129,782. Imray, O., (Soc. of Chemical Industry in Basic). July 12, 1918. Monoazo dyes are obtained by coupling pmononitro-o-oxydiazo compounds free from sulphonic groups with 2-aminonaphthalene sulphonic acid compounds free from hydroxy groups. The products dye wool in acid baths in shades becoming green on chroming, or may be converted into soluble chromium compounds, dyeing wool green shades in acid baths, by the methods described in Specifications 26460/12, 15456/15, 104,045, and 116,535. Products are specified from the following pairs of components :-5-nitro - 2 - aminophenol and 2 : 6, 2 : 7-, or 2 : 5- naphthylamine sulphonic acid, 2: 4-diaminonaphthalene-7-sulphonic acid, or 2-sulphometbyleneaminonaphthalene-6-sulphonic acid; 5-nitro-4 - chlor-2-aminophenol and 2: 6-naphthylamine sulphonic acid; 5-nitro-4-methyl-2-aminophenol and 2 : 7-naphthylamine sulphonic acid. 2-Sulphomethyleneaminonaphthalene - 6-sulphonic acid is prepared by the reaction of formaldehyde and sodium bisulphite on sodium-2- naphthylamine - 6 -sulphonate. 5-Nitro-4-methyl-2-aminophenol is prepared by nitrating ethenylamino-p-cresol and saponifying the product.
