Abstract

1297486 Driving winches DUTTONLAINSON CO 23 July 1971 [2 Dec 1970] 34717/71 Heading B8B An electric power module for attachment to a normally hand operated winch 14 comprises spaced parallel plates 34; 36 forming a gear housing, a reversible electric motor 10 secured to one plate 34 and having a driving spur 30 extending into the housing, a hub assembly including a gear 52 adjacent the plate 36 and within the housing and interlockable with the winch drive shaft when inserted through the plate 36 after the removal of its handle, and a gear train 70, 72 connecting the motor spur 30 and the hub gear 52. The gear train 70, 72 may be disengaged from its drive transmitting position by moving its carrying shaft 74 against the bias of a spring 84, and locking it in a disengaged position. Rotatable with the gear 52 of the hub assembly is a brake drum around which a spring 60 is coiled; one end 64 of the spring being secured to the plate 36 whereby normal movement of the other end of the spring varies the braking force on the drum, the hub being located on the plate 36 by the spring.
