Abstract

A winch comprises a casing in which is mounted the cable winding mechanism with a brake. The test equipment comprises a structure with a chair mounted at one end to receive the winch. The chair consists of two side pieces (6a, 6b) attached by distance pieces (11) and mounted on the structure by screws (10). At the other end is a rotatable drum (7) onto which the cable can be wound. The drum is driven by a hydraulic motor (19) which also drives the winch (2). A brake on the rotatable drum enables a braking torque to be applied to test the cable and a jack enables a force to be exerted on the winch brake to test its efficiency.
