Abstract
129,637. L'Air Liquide, Soc. Anon. pour I'Etude et l'Exploitation des ProcÚdÚs G. Claude. Feb. 15, 1918, [Convention date]. Nitrogen; hydrogen; oxygen.- Nitrogen and hydrogen mixtures for the synthesis of ammonia under " hyperpressures," defined as pressures of 400 to 2000 atmospheres, are purified from oxygen by passing the gases under hyperpressure over heated palladiumasbestos or platinum-asbestos, and then freezing out the water formed. In the apparatus shown, the compressed gases enter a heat-exchanger E, at A, and after passing over the heated platinum-asbestos or palladium-asbestos P, pass to a second heat-exchanger E<2>, the lower part of which is cooled to the freezing-point of water under the pressure employed; the purified gases leave the apparatus at S. Specification 130,086, [Class 1 (i), Chemical processes &c.], is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) includes the application of the process to the purification of any gas mixture containing oxygen and hydrogen in which one of these gases constitutes an impurity with respect to the other. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
