1296365 Cabinets; furniture joints F CATTELAN 12 Dec 1969 [24 Dec 1968] 60701/69 Headings A4B and A4H A demountable furniture article comprises at least one parallelepipedal structure, Fig. 5, formed from components including a pair of spaced parallel first components 10, Fig.4, of generally rectangular planar configuration with flanges overlying both sides of the edges thereof to define peripheral grooves 20 on both faces, at least two second components 12a, 12b, 12c, Fig.2, of generally planar configuration with orthogonally projecting skirts 24 at a pair of opposite edges thereof and at least two ribbed strip-like locking components 14, Fig.3, said ribs and skirts being engageable in said grooves, whereby when said first and second components are orthogonally disposed in edge to edge relationship with skirts and grooves 20a, 20b, 20c thereof inter-engaged, said relationship is secured and rigidified by the engagement of said locking component ribs 28 in further of said grooves 20d, three of said components meeting and interlocking at each of the eight vertices. Component 12a or 12c may be omitted, in which case it is replaced by two locking components 14. In a first modification, Figs.6-9 (not shown), each edge (118) of the first component (110) has recessed and protruding parts (130', 130"), and the grooves (120) have different corresponding depths (120', 120"). Similarly, the skirts (124) of the second components (112) and the ribs (128) of the locking components (114) have different size complementary projecting parts (124', 124" and 128', 128"). In a second modification, Figs.10-19 (not shown), the first component (210) has recessed and protruding parts (230', 230") at each edge, but its grooves (220) have a uniform effective depth provided by ribs (234). The skirts (224) of the second components (212) and the ribs (228) of the locking components (214) are of uniform height, but they include notches (236, 238, 246, 248) for guide rods for drawer supports or for a partition panel. The first components (210) include bevelled corners (232). The provision of grooves such as 20 in both faces of a first component enables two structures sharing a common first component to be joined, see Fig.17 (not shown). The recessed and protruding parts (130', 130" and 230', 230") of the first components allow structures to be inter-locked in superimposed and horizontally arranged relationships, see Figs. 20-24 (not shown). The components may comprise plastics.
