Abstract

1296217 Testing safety belts BRITAX (LONDON) Ltd 1 Oct 1970 [6 Oct 1969] 49084/69 Heading G1S A dynamic test apparatus for safety belts, of the kind comprising an elongated track 7, a wheeled trolley 1 having a front-facing seat 3 to which a dummy is strapped by the belt under test, characterized by upstanding posts 12 at the front of the trolley, at least one horizontally disposed elastic member 9 arranged as a rectangular- U-shaped bight with ends fastened to fixed points 10 beside the track and maintained in shape and position by tensioning means 11 anchored beside the track, the belt being tested by the abrupt change of velocity as the posts 12 of the trolley at some required speed strike the part of the bight between the tensioning means. The trolley is accelerated by tow rope 4 and guided by rail 8. The elastic member may include portions which allow inelastic permanent extensions.
