Abstract
1290193 Wire testing HUGHES AIRCRAFT CO 24 Dec 1969 [1 April 1969] 62887/69 Heading G1S A wire is tested continuously by pulling it through a device in which a loop of the wire is subjected to tension by weight 28, Fig.1, by means of a pulley 20 or a slider of Teflon (Registered Trade Mark) or synthetic sapphire. In the arrangement of Fig.2 the two main pulleys 56, 58 are connected to each other, and two intermediate pulleys 60, 64 are provided which may be biased downwardly or fixed to the frame of the device. In the arrangement of Fig.4, the main pulleys 106, 108 are arranged to rotate in opposite directions, and intermediate pulleys 110, 114 are provided on the frame of the device. When the wire loop around loading pulley 112 extends due to stretching sufficiently for lever 126 to contact switch 152, motor 142 is actuated to rotate pulleys 106, 108 relative to each other through differential 132 to reduce the size of the loop. In order to subject the wire to a bending test, the pulley 112 may be replaced by a pulley arrangement including a small diameter pulley, Fig.6 (not shown).
