Abstract
1293920 Diaphragm pumps; peristaltic pumps NITRO NOBEL A B 24 Dec 1969 [31 Dec 1968] 62814/69 Headings F1A and F1F [Also in Division B1] Peristaltic pumps. A doughy explosive is mixed and kneaded (see Division B1) in an elongate flexible tube 1, Fig. 3 with peristaltic pumping action, the solid constituent being supplied through a central feed tube (27), Fig. 1 (not shown) and liquid by a flexible chamber pump, Fig. 2 to a coaxial annular nozzle (34). When the batch has passed into the prior section 11 of the tube 1 the entrance is closed by opposed pistons (37) and the mixture is kneaded and pumped by fluid pressure applied externally to flexible tube sections 11-20 from duct 10 through conduits 9, 7 and valves 8. Sections 14-20 are connectable to a counter-pressure container 21 so that additional kneading action is obtained by forcing the mixture into them against the pressure from chamber 21. Flexible chamber and reciprocating pumps. The liquid constituent is metered and pumped by a flexible cylinder 41 having inlet and outlet check valves 47, 46 and filled (preferably by gravity) by conduit 49. The cylinder 41 is subjected to periodic external pressure by oil alternately forced from and returned to the cylinder 51 by reciprocation of the piston assembly 52, 53, 54 brought about by fluid-pressure applied alternately through pipes 56, 57; the piston stroke, and consequently the metering capacity of the flexible chamber pump, may be controlled by the screw 58. The several valves of the apparatus are operated in a pre-set sequence by a programming device 23.
