Abstract
129,370. Hechereau, L. Jan. 16, 1917, [Convention date]. Motor power plant.-For driving a propeller b or other element by a variable number of coupled engines, the engines a, a<1> are arranged in line and have their crank-shafts d, d<1> connected by gearing e, f, e<1>, f<1> with a number of driven shafts c, c<1>, which are coupled together by a device j carrying joints which allow of the engines being slightly out of line, the propeller being secured to the shaft c of the first engine. The device j comprises a shaft having, at opposite ends, inner and outer bearings j<2>, j<1> having four flattened portions curved longitudinally, with the corners bevelled, and loosely engaging corresponding bearings on the shafts e<1>, c. The engine cylinders are preferably arranged in star or V formation.
