1292862 Stereotype matrix machines ADDRESSOGRAPH MULTIGRAPH CORP 15 Dec 1969 [18 Dec 1968] 61024/69 Heading B6F Embossing machines.-An embossing machine in which a plastic or sheet metal article A is mounted on a carriage 26 movable in letterspacing and line-spacing directions, comprises male and female dies formed on a pair of discs 62-64 which are axially moved together before a manual or power embossing action is effected. Index setting arrangements.-The discs 62, 64 are rotated by a hand wheel 40 through bevel gearing 42, 44. Indication of setting is shown by a linear scale 54 on the front of the machine with which co-operates a pointer 52 driven by belt 46. Alternatively the scale may be a rotary dia. Impression arrangements.-Impression is effected by a motor or a hand lever 122, Fig. 12, rotating a shaft 124, collar 126, link 128 and second eccentric collar 130 to rotate a shaft 90. This rotates a cam 92 raising the lower disc 64 and then to force an embossing head 96 against the selected arms of discs 62, 64. The discs are axially moved to contact the article R before head 96 makes contact via lost-motion linkage 104 and cam 120 acting on the lower disc 64. Aligning for impression.-An aligning finger 140 is moved through a lost motion spring link 144 operated by a follower 150 from a cam 152. This action occurs before the cam 120 closes the two discs together. Adjustment of impression.-Adjustment may be effected by the screwed connection 132, Fig. 12, transmitting the impression force from the collar 126. Further adjustment may also be effected by a wedge (170, Fig. 16) which can vary the position of a stop on the anvil 88 or (188, Fig. 16). Framework.-The machine can be opened for access to the interior for replacement of the discs 62, 64. A cover section 24 is hingedly mounted on a base section 22, Fig. 15, and is held closed by a latch 164 pushed on a yoke 86 which is spring biased counterclockwise.
