Abstract
1292808 Fluidized bed reactors LAPORTE INDUSTRIES Ltd 7 Jan 1970 [17 Jan 1969] 2776/69 Heading F4B [Also in Division B1] A fluidized bed reactor for the chlorination of titanium containing materials includes a refractory covered perforated base plate 3, each perforation being fed with fluidizing gas from arcuate manifolds 9 through its own tube system 8, 7. Each tube system 8, 7, includes shut off valves 15, 18, a flow controlling orifice 16 and a removable plug 17, so that on blockage of orifice 16, valves 15 and 18 can be closed and plug 17 removed to allow compressed gas, suction or a cleaning rod to be applied to the end of tube 8 to clear the blockage. The orifice dimensions in the different tube systems may be chosen to given a uniform, or a non-uniform but centrally symmetrical gas flow pattern through the base plate perforations, which may be provided with non-return means to prevent the bed particles entering tubes 7. Each manifold 9 is fed from mains 13 through feeder tubes 14.
